The Top Five Hallmark Christmas Movies (2024 Edition)
...and crowning the third annual Hallmarker of the Year
Before we get to ranking, a quick note that last night’s final movie “Trading Up for Christmas” is a skip. It’s not terrible, but certainly nothing memorable you need to go out of your way for.
A few thoughts on this year overall:
By far the worst bunch of movies since I started doing this in 2020
There was SO MUCH mediocre content this year that it was really easy to rank my top five
I can’t wait to do again!
Here’s our top five in descending order…
#5: Christmas on Call
By far the biggest surprise on this list, but I keep remembering that these two had the best chemistry of any leads all year. This felt like a “real life” dating movie that could actually happen, and probably has. Philadelphia at Christmas gets so many points from me!
#4: ‘Tis the Season to be Irish
All the international movies this year were SNOOZERS except for this gem. So much beautiful scenery, wonderful Irish supporting actors, two solid leads. It made me want to go back to Ireland immediately.
#3: Three Wiser Men and a Boy
I enjoyed this FAR MORE than the first movie in this mini franchise. Big family, Christmas pageant, lots of cute kids, so many festive activities! This movie also has my favorite SCENE in any Hallmark flick this year: Tyler Hynes’ uncle monologue with his cute little nephew gave me feeeeeeelingssssss.
#2: Christmas with the Singhs
It’s the wholesome Hallmark version of “Four Christmases,” filled with a giant ensemble cast, family traditions, and Christmas mishaps. It was different from the usual rom com storylines and I wanted to hang out with everyone in this movie. Our first 10/10 of the season that came at the perfect time.
AND THE THIRD ANNUAL HALLMARKER OF THE YEAR AWARD GOES TO…
Following Yonder Star!
I could be accused of recency bias here, but this has EVERYTHING I look for in a Hallmark Christmas movie….Vermont, an Inn, single dad, Christmas magic. It is a warm hug and not trying to do too much. This season was filled with Hallmark going way off script, trying to be clever, and they should remember to put out more movies like this one.
…and with that, the 2024 season has come to a close. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! See you in 2025.
I haven't checked out Following Yonder Star. I would say I'll find it...but I'm kinda burned out on Christmas films. Maybe next season?
My favorite was Sugarplummed. Followed by The Santa Class.
